NORTHERN SHAOLIN & TAIJI CHÍN-NÁ WORKSHOP
2026 August 16th, New York紐約長拳 X 太極擒拿講座
By: Master Han JiXiang 韓基祥老師
THE HIDDEN CONNECTION BETWEEN LONG FIST and TAICHI
Reinterpreting Traditional Forms Through the Lens of Chín-Ná
Many practitioners view Chángqúan (Northern Shaolin Long Fist) and Taijiquan (Tai-Chi) as entirely distinct martial arts systems. Yet when we return to the movement structures and technical principles embedded in their traditional forms, a shared language emerges — one that invites deeper exploration.
This workshop examines the body mechanics of traditional classical Long Fist alongside representative postures from Chen Style and Yang Style Tai Chi, analyzing the underlying 擒拿 Chin-Na concepts and principles of body use within each. We will explore how different martial arts lineages have preserved similar technical ideas through their own distinct forms. Through comparative analysis of postures, body mechanics, and structural principles, we will reconsider the function of traditional forms and the historical imprints left behind as Chinese martial arts evolved and transmitted across generations.
Through this one day, six hours workshop, you will learn the hands-on logic behind join-locks (Chin-Na), from basic submission controls, to complex techniques, and counter Chin-Na methods.
Martial arts experience of any level are welcomed!
